oscar wrap up

the big night has come and gone. all in all, happily, there were very few surprises in the winner's circle. fashion wise, the night can be summed up as "safe". while there was lots of glamour, and lots of beauty, there were not a lot of risks taken.

at the risk of
coming across as a marion cotillard stalker (3 posts featuring her in less than 30 days), i'm absolutely in love with the dress she wore that night. it was the closest thing to a risk that we saw and it actually paid off on sunday night. her full-length white and gold jean paul gaultier gown was a stand-out in a sea of look alike either red or grecian inspired ensembles. her win was one in a string of awards she's won around the world for her performance, and not undeserved. the acceptance speech she delivered enchantingly, communicated shock, humility and gratitude. according to imdb, cotillard is signed on for 2 very interesting films due for release next year (public enemies with johnny depp and a great ensemble cast, and nine with javier bardem, penelope cruz & sophia loren ~ not bad). can't wait to see more strong work from this talented and beautiful young woman.

i was so excited to see glen hansard & marketa irglova win for best song. now, i am biased since falling slowly is one of my personal favorites (don't believe me? check my mySpace). but how exciting to see two talented singer/songwriters win for such a beautiful song. my hope is that this win will do big things for their careers and introduce them to the american market on
a much wider scale than the film did. it was also cool for jon stewart to bring irglova back on stage after the commercial break to deliver her sweet & simple acceptance speech after she was rudely shuffled off by the same orchestra that had just accompanied her performance!

but back to the fashion...

~ loved jennifer garner's black mermaid oscar de la renta and the van cleef and arpels diamonds were amazing accessories. her hair was deconstructed perfection and she carried herself with grace and elegance.

~ loved heidi klum's dramatic john galliano gown. while the custom made frock was right on trend color wise, it definitely stood out in the crowd. it seemed to be more indicative of the oscar glamour we at home are expecting. and it was far more exciting than what so many of hollywood's leading ladies wore that night. leave it to a super model to lay claim to the title of "best dressed". an interesting back story is that klum bought the dress herself and has placed it up for auction. the proceeds will benefit women's heart disease research and awareness. look good & do good, not a bad combination.

~ and what a necklace! check out keri russell's h stern necklace. it was absolutely stunning and the perfect accent to her champagne nina ricci stunner. her look was much more va va va voom than usual for her. she mentioned on the red carpet that she was out voted and forced to wear the necklace, and i say bravo to her friends or family or stylist or whoever. brilliant advice on their part (and way to listen, keri).

sunday was a wonderful night to be a fan of the movies. and i'm excited for the opportunity to finish watching the nominees.

and the countdown begins for next year's festivities!
